It is only one of those hard, cruel facts of life that the big dogs have all of the cash they have to publicize and sell their products and us little men are on advertising budgets that are so tiny they probably don’t add up to what the major players spend on paper clips in a month. Competing with the big boys isn’t feasible…or possible in fact. So what are us small businesses intended to do?
Either niche marketing or niche affiliate marketing can be the solution. We will not advertise our services and goods to the world at large but we do not have to be able to do that to be in a position to make a very good living… Thanks to the Net.
Niche marketing is selling specific products to a limited audience. One person with a PC, a Net connection and a brilliant idea can start a business for himself on the internet and target the folks that would be most keen on what he has to sell and do all of the above on a particularly limited advertising budget.
Finding the right niche for what you have to sell isn’t truly all that tricky. Just think about who the people are who would be most inquisitive about what you’ve got to sell. As an example, if you have concocted a shampoo formula which will take chlorine out of a person’s hair, you can’t contend with giant firms that sell shampoo but you can narrow your market down to a spot and target sales to those who have swimming pools. You purchase a domain, get a server, and build a website to advertise your product solely to folk who have swimming pools.
In essence, niche marketing is selling a service to those that need or want the product the most.
